After two days where endless windshifts left competitors and race committee wondering what would happen next, the 53rd DonQ Rum Keg Regatta in Miami closed out with 12-16 knots of solid easterly breeze. Ernesto Rodriguez/Hallie Schiffman won all three races, but everyone enjoyed the mix of reaches and runs in classic Biscayne Bay conditions, a great reminder of how well Snipes fit the short chop.

Saturday night’s Cuban dinner was capped off by a debrief that helped everyone—newbies and veterans—learn some new speed tricks. We also discussed how to increase participation at this and other regattas. The bottom line is this: we need to do a better job of reaching out to other sailors and sharing how much fun we have together. Serious Sailing, Serious Fun! Miami in March provides both.
