On August 2nd and 3rd, 20 argentinian snipes raced at the 3rd Gran Prix of the year, at Chascomus Lake, Buenos Aires province. This is the first time in decades that Snipes go to Chascomus for a Gran Prix regatta. Chascomus, together with Mar del Plata, recently joined SCIRA again, after many years of effort by SCIRA ARG (AAS).

The venue is a small lake surrounded by flat land, with steady winds, with 5 to 15 degrees oscilating shifts.

On Saturday, due to the light wind and fog present at the lake (is middle of winter down here), only one race took place. We won that race, followed close by Augusto Amato and Constanza Alvarez on second.

A second race was started, with several boats OCS with Z flag, but the race was abandoned when rounding the first leward mark, so several crews carried a 20% for next day, myself included.

Sunday, with 3 races to race we started the first one in a 15 knots breeze, that died to a 8 to 10 knots. We won that race with Juan Grimaldi on second and Alejandro Triggiano on 3rd, all of us carrying 20% from Saturday.

Second and third race of the day were held under a 6 knots shifty wind, that allowed anyway good and close racing. We won both races with Augusto Amato and Constanza Alvarez in a very close 2nd in both races, after leading most of the final race, but they got no wind on the last downwind, allowing us to take the lead and finally win.

So at the end, the podium was: 1st Soubie-Lipszyc , 2nd Amato-Alvarez and 3rd Grimaldi-Grimaldi

The junior was won by Jacoby-Cadlaw (their firts time ! congrats!), the master by Enrique Toffoli – Aviles and the promotional by De Wysiecki – Sallenave. In mixed, 1st was for Amato-Alvarez and 2nd for Triggiano – Safar.

It was a good regatta, with a good number of new SCIRA members, having allready 50 boats on our ranking (some of them “promotional” not competitive boats), so the class is showing signs of grow. Finally !!!

The authorities at the Club de regatas Chascomus did every thing perfect, with very little time, since the regatta was expected to take place at Santa fe and changed venue only 3 weeks ago. So a big aplause to the club, Alejandro de Wysiecki and OR Marcelo Costa.

Our next GPN regatta is in Rosario, after the San Diego Western

Greetings to all from down here,
