It was a beautiful end to the 17th Winter Championship – Trofeo Fosco Santini, last Sunday, December 14, in Talamone. Three races with three different winners were sailed with the wind from the south-east 12 to 15 knots.
…
In the first race, after a good start and a perfect first beat, it was the expert team Marco Pantano with Italian National Secretary Francesco Krantz Fontana as crew that won, beating out the teams of Filippo Perdisa -Marco Rinaldi and “Johnny” Stella -Alberto Perdisa. The second race was won by Filippo Perdisa and Marco Rinaldi, with a good distance on Pietro Fantoni with the young Arianna Buzzetti as crew and then Pantano -Fontana third. In the third race, Pietro – Arianna got their ninth bullet in the Championship. Seconds were Perdisa – Rinaldi, who proved to be the best sailors of this last weekend, while Andrea Pesci with Lollo Baldi as crew finished third.
The outcome of the Championship was more than positive. This year it was windier than usual and all the teams worked hard hiking upwind, waiting for planing downwind on fast reaches or runs.
After nineteen races Pietro Fantoni, with his crews Arianna Buzzetti, Michele Meotto, Jane Alquati and Alizee Del Gizzo, won for umpteenth time the championship and Trophy Fosco Santini. Filippo Perdisa – Marco Rinaldi were second, Marco Pantano – Francesco Fontana third, Andrea Pesci – Lorenzo Baldi, and fourth, Lapo Savorani and Fedrico Milone. Twenty-eight teams competed in the Championship.
The race area of Talamone, where this latest edition of “Trofeo Santini” was held, was also the location of the sixth edition of the prestigious “Winter Trophy.” Talamone gave us as usual the beautiful scenery of “Snipe Bay” with tough and close races. It is a pleasure to go to this beautiful bay for sailing where we always find the usual friendliness and hospitality of friends.
Also it was a great workout for the teams who look forward to the 2015 Snipe season, when on the same waters the Snipe sailors will race in June for a Regata Nazionale and then in September for the Junior and Senior World Championships.
At the prize-giving ceremony, which was held in the picturesque and beautiful clubhouse of the Circolo della Vela Talamone, Alessandro Testa emphasized the human and financial effort that the club is putting toward the next World championship, which promises to have an extraordinary level of competition.
