“At long last, today’s fleet race marked the first day that Snipe # 3258, masterfully restored by Roy Terwilliger of Cape Cod MA, touched the water in who knows how long. She handled beautifully in the mild breeze. That is until misfortune resulted in a capsize. Prior to this, I had never sailed a boat with zero freeboard, but it is quite an interesting experience, made possible only in conditions where there are no waves. I guess I could have gone with the story that this was an intentional method of soaking a wooden boat to expand and fill her joints, but Jennifer and I had so much fun with this new adventure that I feel compelled to go with the truth.” Roy Terwilliger
