From September 19 to 26, the Club Marítimo de Mahón will host the Snipe World Championship. While the club hosted the European Championship in 1994—won by local sailors Damián Borrás Camps and Javier Magro—this will be the first time the World Championship takes place in Mahón.

Bringing the class’s pinnacle event to the island is a direct recognition of the Flota Snipe Menorca (Fleet 187 Mahon), which stands out as one of the most active and competitive fleets in the world.

The strength of the Menorca fleet lies in its sailors. The local community consistently produces high-level competitors who are regular contenders on the international circuit.

Names like Damián Borrás, Jordi Triay, Fernando Rita, Javier Magro, Lluis Mas, Cristian Vidal, and Sara Franceschi, just to name a few, are well-known and consistently finish at the top of the leaderboards. Furthermore, the fleet and the Club Marítimo de Mahón organize regattas throughout the year that have become true classics within the Snipe Class.

For these local sailors, their fleet and their club, the upcoming championship is a well-deserved opportunity to compete at the highest level on their home waters. With a strong local fleet and international teams arriving in September, Mahón is set to deliver a highly competitive regatta.
