The artificial Lake of San Ruffino, in the Sibillini Mountains, hosted the fourth edition of the regatta “The Sails of San Ruffino.”

It was a wonderful event, those who participated in this year and previous years know what I mean: spectacular natural scenery, great organization, social events worthy of an international championship and an unique hospitality.

The whole community set their affection on us. It is difficult to find another race with no entry fees, free buffet every morning at the briefing, gala dinners, huge baskets full of food and wines as prizes for the winners..

This is a proven formula and extremely pleasing to the Snipe sailors who flocked expecially from the fleet Romagna and Aternum. Too bad that the teams from District 4, who were pre-registered, didn’t climb to these beautiful hills of the Marche for sailing in the lake.

For this regatta we have two rankings, one for the boats, as for any other regatta, and one for the municipalities to which they are paired teams

On Thursday 24, we had three tough and uncertain races under the rain. It was impossible to control the opponents in the usual way. The very fluky wind forced the teams to do many tacks and jibes. Giuseppe Prosperi and Marco Ceccarelli won the first race, overtaking on the last tack Francesco Rossi and Frenk Filippini. Filippo Perdisa and “Krantz” Fontana were third. In the second race Peppe D’Orazio and Ermanno Muzil were very fast and sailed well, finishing in second, just behind Rossi – Filippini, while Perdisa Jr. with our National Secretary as crew, very conistent, ended third again. In the last race of the day Francesco Rossi took another new victory, while Perdisa Sr. was passed on the finish line by his son, just for a few centemeters.

On Friday 25 a bright sun was shining but the wind was very unstable with huge shift of 30-50 degrees. It was impossible for the excellent race committee to set a windward-leeward course. So they decided to set a different and unusual course, a quadrilateral course, a sort of coastal race. At least it was a race, though not valid for the final results. Alberto Perdisa and Marco Rinaldi finally woke up and won the race with Paolo Fuzzi and Stefano Muccioli took the second.

At the prize-giving every sailors had prizes, while the winners took the usual large baskets filled with gourmet products. Dominators of the event were Rossi – Filippini from Bologna. In second place Filippo Perdisa – Francesco Fontana and third Giuseppe Prosperi – Marco Ceccarelli.

The team “Comune di San Ruffino-Santa Vittoria”, formed by Filippo Perdisa – Francesco Fontana, Giuseppe Prosperi – Marco Ceccarelli and Claudio Guadagni – Alessandro Amato took the coveted trophy “Le Vele di San Ruffino”.

A big thanks to those who supported this event at the institutional level, the numerous sponsors and official suppliers (I mean … food and wine) and the very efficient and tireless organizers Stefano Castori and Anna Mariani.

Viva San Ruffino!
