It’s impossible to explain the positive impact Gonzalo “Old Man” Diaz had on so many people, including the Snipe sailing family.
Here are a few stories from the traditional Saturday-night lasagna dinner at Old Man and Carmen’s home during the Comodoro Rasco Regatta (this is from the 2019 edition).
The first clip features the part of the video with sailing off Havana, hauling the boats out, and the Old Man and Carmen dockside kisses!! I also love hearing so many familiar Snipe voices in the background. Sorry for the snacks on the table–there is always so much good food at the Diaz house!
In the second clip the Old Man talks about Dr. Inclan (who he calls his hero) and sportsmanship (featuring a great lawyer joke from Peter Commette!). In the third clip Gonzalo tells the story of the first Snipe that sailed in Cuba.
At the end you can watch the Old Man with the clip of little Gonzo, Augie, and Ani!
