Hosted by Royal Astur Yacht Club’s Snipe fleet 152, the 33rd Asturian District Championship took place Saturday and Sunday. The local boats were joined by Polish skipper Piotr Slowik, who is training on his way to the World Championship in La Coruña, and his crew From RCN Motril (fleet 624), Daniel Fernandez.

Saturday was sunny, but huge waves and force 4 northeastern winds turned the journey into a tough sailing contest. After a “W” course for the first race and a “O” for the second, Carlos Ordoñez and Leticia Pelayo’s “Bam-bam” took two first places, while “Don Pepe”, with Pepe Palacio with daughter Maria, and “La Stravaganza”, with PiotrSlowik Daniel Fernández, exchanged second and third places.

Sunday was cloudy and wind shifted to northwest, in the 10-13 knots range, allowing 2 races on “W” courses, with the same boats taking the top three places, except for the last race, where “Kaiser”, with Alvaro Alegria and Juan Garcia-Ovies, took second place.
“Bam-bam”, with Carlos Ordoñez and Leticia Pelayo, is the new District champion!

This district championship has been taking place since 1985, when the former district of North of Spain, that included Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country, was divided into three. The former district championship started in 1957.
