Sailors enjoyed “three regattas in one” in Punta Marina over a summer and windy weekend where three trophies were offered as prizes based on relative separate results. There were, besides the usual sailors from Romagna, others from Chioggia finally were back in our region and the important presence of Pietro Fantoni and Marinella Gorgatto, newly minted Italian champions, who did not want to miss “their” regatta being by years members of Fleet Romagna.

It was nice to see on the water a whole family of excellent sailors: dad Lucio Penso, mum Marinella Gorgatto and the young Silvia and Luisa.

On Saturday the “Garbino” (what we call the wind from SW) created some difficulties for the competitors, with its strong gusts and its whims. It was a very good day for the Perdisa family as Filippo Perdisa – Marco Rinaldi won the first race and were clearly at the top of the standings after three races, and Alberto Perdisa -Marco Onorato, who wonin the second race and were in second overall.

In third was Pietro Fantoni with the gritty Silvia Penso as crew, and in fourth Tom Stahl with the young Martina Aleotti from Riccione. Stahl – Aleotti won the third race with the wind dying, In this race the young Opti sailor Luisa Penso got an excellent third place with her mum Marinella as crew.

On Sunday, the wind was from the NE; in the Adriatic Sea this is called “Bora,” with big swells that highlighted the skills of the current Italian champion. So Pietro and Silvia won the fourth race, while Tom and Martina won the fifth (last of the series). It was a good day also for Giuseppe Prosperi – Marco Ceccarelli, second in both races.

Winners of the series were Pietro Fantoni and Silvia Penso Tom Stahl – Martina Aleorri were second, Filippo Perdisa – Marco Rinaldi third, Prosperi Ceccarelli fourth, Perdisa sr. – Marco Onorato fifth..

I want to mention many competitors, who showed excellent level of sailing while on the water, beginning with Paolo Sangiorgi with the multi-champion Lucio Penso and then Paolo Fuzzi with Stefano Muccioli, Giovanni Stella with her daughter Alice (the finished third in the fourth race!), Gian Marco Pepe -Marco Prosperi and Massimo Zambonin with the very young Maria Chiara Onorato as crew.

For the “Combinata dell’Adriatico” (“Combined Adriatic Trophy”), a challenge trophy with a beautiful bronze bell, it was a clear victory for Pietro Fantoni who had already won the first stage in Chioggia (Campionato dell’Adriatico – Piada Trophy) with the American Kathleen Tocke as crew.

The Coppa Dracone, combined with Trofeo Mignani in Riccione, was won by Filippo Perdisa – Marco Rinaldi, in front of Giuseppe Prosperi – Marco Ceccarelli and Paolo Fuzzi – Stefano Muccioli. The prizes (not only for the winners, but for all the competitors) were bottles of the excellent red wine “Dracone”, offered by Palazzona di Maggio.

Romagna and Punta Marina in particular, with all their terrific staff, have confirmed their ability to welcome the Snipe sailors. And it is nice to see that many young people are entering with passion and fun to our Class.
