Last weekend the Snipe Class Italy had the last Regata Nazionale for the Italian Ranking in the waters off Anzio. It was well organized by the club Circolo Reale Canottieri Tevere Remo, which offered hospitality, an excellent dinner, and accommodation for the sailors.

The strong front which affected the whole Italian peninsula prevented the teams from sailing Saturday, due to heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas.

On Sunday a bright sun and mild temperatures greeted the teams with a wind from the southeast around 15 knots, which made it possible to carry out three spectacular races.

The particular sea bed off Anzio generated big waves that pushed the Snipe to a continuous surf on the runs, but made it difficult steering upwind.

The first race was won by Giampiero Poggi – Eugenia Vanni, who were third at the European Championship in Cervia last year. Pietro Fantoni, fresh from the Worlds in Rio, was second with Marco Prosperi as crew. In third place was the father-son pair of Filippo and Alberto Perdisa.

In the second race Fantoni led the fleet until the end of the last run, when Poggi managed to take the inside position at the mark and defended his position on the last beat to the finish. Third was the young Alessandro Bari with his father Antonio.

The third race was dominated by Fantoni – Prosperi, ahead of Poggi – Vanni and Andrea Gemini – Alessandro Tramparulo.

As expected, the favorites Poggi and Fantoni took first and second, while on the third step of the podium was the excellent Andrea Gemini – Alessandro Tramparulo.
