APRIL FOOLS’ DAY – THIS IS A JOKE

Upper Keys Sailing Club was the first to announce their Snipe regatta dates for 2024; the Midwinter Championship will begin on February 5 and end on March 27. (Nope, that’s not a typo.)

“Two days just wasn’t long enough, and now it’s the perfect bridge between the two Miami regattas!” Snipe Class US National Secretary Evan Hoffmann explains. Asked why UKSC made this announcement before the other clubs had even settled on their 2024 dates, Evan said there were two reasons. “First, we had to get it onto the Upper Keys calendar before Commodore Mike Higgins stepped down. Second, Key Largo housing and campgrounds fill up fast. Good news, though; this will tie in perfectly with the 28 day minimum stay for house rentals on Key Largo!”

Bahamas organizer Lori Lowe is quite displeased, as the dates are in direct conflict with the historic Bacardi/Gamblin Regattas. “This is a complete insult! Don’t be expecting any Bahamian teams to attend next year—and you’d better warn Upper Keys Sailing Club that their bar take will be drastically reduced as a result.”
