Day one of the 68 boat Snipe North American Championship was light and gray as predicted, though the rain kindly held off. The race committee managed to eke out two races in a 3-6 knot southeasterly.

With plenty of shifts, holes, and a bit of current early in the day, everyone was challenged by the conditions—though one team made it look easy: Doug Hart/Ryan Hopps passed early leader Jimmy Bowers/Julia Rabin halfway through race one, and then led race two wire to wire. Jensen McTighe/Brenden Feeney are currently in fourth, leading the five boat Junior division.

After the second finish the fleet was towed in and gathered around the beer truck before a taco bar dinner. Tomorrow is predicted to be similar conditions, so the planned eight race series may be a challenge.
