1939 Snipe #3239
1939 Snipe #3239 at the Classic Snipe Rally at Mystic Lake in July
This Snipe was one of about 14 or more built at the Douglas Aircraft wood shop in Santa Monica CA. All hulls were built off the same hull jig and finished off by the employees who participated. These boats formed part of the Snipe Fleet #24 roster at Santa Monica and nearby fleets in Los Angeles. #3239 was raced in the Santa Monica fleet, and later it was in the Corpus Christi TX Snipe fleet after WW II. It was completely restored and updated by Jim Black of Mechanicsville/Richmond VA and has been displayed at two Classic Snipe Rallys. A sister boat #3244, was recently acquired in OK and has also been restored and updated is now a member of the rejuvenated Snipe Fleet #24 at Marina del Rey CA.

As the restorer of 3244 it is great to see 3239 also still in the news. What a great looking boat.
