The Kansai Intercollegiate Women’s Championship was held in Nishinomiya. With more entries in both classes (Snipes and 470s) compared to last year, we hope to see the number of female sailors continue to grow! As a side note, a fun “girls’ gathering” was held after the closing ceremony.
The championship took place in Nishinomiya over a weekend just after Typhoon No. 7 had passed. On the first day, three races were held in a north wind of around 10 knots.
In the Snipe class, the boats started twice on the second day, but both attempts resulted in “no race” (abandoned). Consequently, the results of the three races completed on the first day became the final standings, with Chisa Sakazaki and Sara Kitao (Konan University) taking the championship.
Kwansei Gakuin University won the overall team championship, marking their third consecutive overall title. The All Japan Women’s Intercollegiate Championship, which brings together female student sailors from across the country, will be held from September 19th to 22nd off the coast of Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The Snipe class winners, Chisa Sakazaki and Sara Kitao (Konan University), claimed their long-awaited first title in the Kansai region. > “Since this is my last Women’s Intercollegiate Championship, I went into it determined to win no matter what,” Sakazaki (pictured right) said. “As our team’s top boat, I feel a huge sense of relief that we won. Up until last year, our goal at the All Japan Women’s Intercollegiate was just to place in the top ranks, but this year we are going for the championship. We want to keep this momentum going into the Kansai individual and team championships.”
