Another successful Riff Raff regatta (and District 3 Championship) was just completed. Could this possibly be our 50thanniversary? It might even be more. Cowan Lake has had a sailing club since 1954 and we have photos of Snipe sailors from those early years.

Like all previous years, the sailing was serious, but the fun was is what keeps sailors coming back.

This year the temperatures were idyllic, but the wind was a little light. None the less, our RC was able to complete 4 competitive races on Saturday. Per usual the Disch family of Jno and Karen, were able to fend off most competitors and score 3 bullets. Wendy O’Toole and her crew Jennifer Ray we’re able to sneak a win in on race 3 of the day. The balance of the places were completely jumbled up and only the Sunday throw out would shed any light.

Dinner and cocktails this year were hosted by Carey and Bob Nelson who brought out a series of pasta dishes with some great locally brewed beer. Desert was an all time favorite, brought to us by Sandy Rowland. More beer, a beautiful star filled sky and bonfire finished the evening.

Sunday brought light winds and a ½ hour postponement, but we were still able to get 2 races in before the cut off. The Disch’s, again, brought their “A” game with 2 more bullets. It’s hard to catch a team when all they throw out is a 3.

The final top 3 include Jno and Karen Disch in 1st , our District 3 2019 Champions, Matt Heywood and Chris Bickley who probably had the most consistent races, in 2ndfollowed by our own Bob Rowland and Gwen Marshall in a hard fought third.

Next year: same time, same place. Skipper’s meeting at noon on the second Saturday of September. The wind gods tell us to expect beautiful temps and stronger winds. Who’s coming?
