Saturday’s races had to be abandoned as wind speed went well over the maximum allowed of 22 knots for open waters in the rules of conduct of the class, reaching gusts of 32 knots.
Participants had to stay ashore around a beer keg provided by the host club and kept socializing at the dinner gathering on the clubhouse to prove our motto is completely right: Serious Sailing, Serious Fun !
Day two of races, Sunday, started with an hour ahead of schedule change by the Race Committee in order to assure the boats could be ready at the best possible weather conditions. “Delta” was raised at 10.15 and after some waiting on the water the first race took place on a W course with the very competitive fleet sailing very tight. Right afterwards, the second race was set on a closer to the shore course and start took place. Just as the fleet went over the windward mark, a thick fog moved from the sea towards the shore and race had to be abandoned. Thanks to a great service of the rescue boats, the fleet was quickly gathered together and escorted to port.
Awards ceremony was conducted shortly after with Martin Bermudez de la Puente and Angela Pumariega winnig the trophy for fleet 529. Carlos Ordoñez and Maria Mendoza took second place for the hosting fleet 152, and third place was for fleet 150′ Enrique Garcia de Soto and Luis Abarca.
Next year’s Memorial Carlos del Castillo will also include the Iberian Championship. See you there !
