The Most Popular Local Regatta in Italy and … with Highest Number of Junior Sailors

Captain Bruni (zonal delegate) is satisfied because finally the third local regatta in Ledro Lake involved as many as 19 boats. But what is most striking is the amount of young people: if it were calculated the average age of the 36 sailors would be definitely the lowest at national and perhaps global level. In fact, while in many regattas it rewards the younger crew who often has more than 18 years, in Ledro they reward the top 3 crews under 18 and have been seen as well a couple of all-female crews juniors ….

It was hot even in Ledro and, for once, it was not raining!!!

The night we slept with the sleeping bag while the highest temperatures were on the day of 30 ° C … definitely better than in other charming towns in the Po valley (about 40 ° C). Absents little justifiable captain Zuanelli, Dematté and Schiaffino balanced by four crews and a half from Associazione Velica Trentina.

Saturday the wind is tense and surprisingly regular specially the first two races and the third falls a bit allowing some recovery to the most careful and lucky crews. Over the top the young Alessandro Bari (Circolo Vela Torbole) assisted by Leonardo Franzini (AV Trentino) which is very fast and misses very little going to win two out of three races and leaving the legendary Cigalotti winning in the second Race. Bari races very well, little risks and controls the fleet but also shows the courage to risk some strange edge to retrieve when you find a little ‘lingered but never risk too much”.

In the evening a sumptuous dinner prepared by the members of the Circle are filling the competitors and friends. As is the custom of this club only friends and family of sailors, as the competitors themselves, do not pay. The menu offers fresh vegetables and peas, Storo polenta, polenta, goulash, gorgonzola, red wine, water, strudel with whipped cream and strawberries. The hospitality is fantastic: you feel liked and like a friend’s house. There are people sitting at the bar or the restaurant of the club to hang pontificating and often vexed by the vitality of those who make sport … certainly because there is no bar or restaurant .. but no one dies of thirst or hunger and the boys are playing cards or chess on the tables of the club. The gastronomic offer is completed, both the Saturday to Sunday, with basket with 2 sandwiches each and packet of biscuits.

On Sunday morning, at 8.00, we celebrate the birthday of young Giorgia and eat a fantastic fruit cake with coffee. Then you come out and it is the real Ledro … the wind hard to relax but the jury starts a test unfortunate: the wind drops for all Venditti excluded stretching and rounding the mark in solitary fleet limps but then half astern the first stop while behind the wind is strong … the jury canceled and again. Two races with shifting wind see the young Bari check win quietly while Cigalotti and myself play the second arrival of the last race … tick Cigalotti … I’m not convinced, I try to bribe the judges, aid Cavallari even to bring the anchor of the ship jury but there is nothing to do. Emer husband and wife, comfortable with the shifting Wind place two respectable 4 ‘places.

The president Paola Mora is clearly satisfied and proudly shows the many young people who enliven his circle … and that race in snipe.

Just a word: FANTASTIC!!!
