Georgia State Snipe Championships
Lake Park, Februry 23-24, 2013. Report by Hal Gilreath Photos Eight boats arrived to the Twin Lakes in Lake Park, GA. Lake Park is just South of Valdosta and very convenient for sailors across the SouthEast. As usual Valdosta Yacht Club rolled out the wide path of hospitality and welcomed the fleet to VYC. Pat and Angela Lambert came North from Melbourne YC to serve as PRO for the regatta. Saturday started off as a nice day with a light breeze blowing. The RC was able to get in the first race which saw the fleet race around both of the Twin Lakes and through the "cut". Hal and Emily Gilreath, from Jacksonville, were followed closely by Scotty and Rachael Cline from Chattanooga. The weather from a closing front descended upon Lake Park resulting in cancellation of a second race.

That evening the typical Southern Hospitality was enjoyed by the fleet as a massive Southern buffet was provided by the VYC fleet. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful social time as the rain poured outside. Sunday dawned clear and a little cooler. The fleet enjoyed two competitive races in the shifting breezes of the Twin Lakes. Hal and Emily were able to keep ahead of Scotty and Rachael to win the regatta. Michael Papp from Birmingham followed closely in third.
Another great regatta at Valdosta Yacht Club. The local fleet launched and retrieved all the boats via their ATV’s. It’s just a great time and one which sailors continue to return and enjoy.
