No luck for the local Snipe sailors! After the clear victory in Riccione, Pietro Fantoni, this time sailing with the young local sailor Federica Biondi, dominated also the Trofeo Tamburini in Rimini. This regatta, now in its forty-seventh edition, is part of the history of Italian Snipe Class and the history of sailing sport in Italy.

While the supremacy of Fantoni-Biondi (with four first places) was never questioned, behind thenm the fight was uncertain. On Saturday summer temperatures and a light sea breeze with a persistent right shift characterized the three races sailed. Alberto Perdisa – Stefano Muccioli were very consistent with a third, a fourth and a second place, wich gave them second place in the overall standings. Nice sailing also for Claudio Guadagni – Alessandro Amato and Gianmarco Pepe – Marco Prosperi.

On Sunday the weather pattern was more complicated. After the cancellation of the first race, which featured the withdrawal of Fantoni due to a collision and also a good, but unfortunately vain, performance, by Alfredo Montanari – Krantz Fontana, we sailed two more races with offshore wind, the famous “Garbino”.

It was another first for Fantoni – Biondi while in second there was a “photo finish” between Montanari – Fontana and Perdisa – Muccioli.

The last race of the series was shortened on the second beat due to the wind dropping. This was an excellent race for Giuseppe Prosperi – Marco Ceccarelli, finally comfortable with their new sails, threaten closely by Paolo Fuzzi – Natalino Gasparini. Natalino, always in a good shape, was back in the Snipe after 30 years. Third, after a big recovery, were Perdisa – Muccioli.

I wish to thank the three teams who came from other fleets and often threatened the best teams: Peppe D’Orazio – Ermanno Muzil and Gianfranco Piselli – Pino Borghese came north from Rimini, while Andrea Moronato and Sandro Melato came from Chioggia. We expected greater participation from the Venice sailors, because this year the Coppa Tamburini is combined with the Campionato dell’Adriatico in Chioggia in July.

The event ended with plenty of pasta and good wine, while Pietro and Federica rose the old and heavy Coppa Tamburini. Alberto Perdisa – Stefano Muccioli and Giuseppe Prosperi – Marco Ceccarelli completed the podium.

Now we have a week for resting on this side of the Adriatic. See you in Pescara on June 22-23 for the Regata Nazionale and then for the Piada Trophy (June 28-30) in Cervia.
