After a delayed start, sailors headed out on Biscayne Bay for 4 races this Saturday. One Olympic and three Windward- Leeward races were run in 7-13 knots of breeze. The fleet was incredibly tight and leeward mark roundings were exciting for sailor and spectators. Lucas Calabrese (ARG) sailing with Mitchell Kiss (Holland, Mich.) are tied for first place with with Miami’s Nick Voss and Nicole Popp. North American Champion Raul Rios (PUR), sailing with new Snipe crew Steph Hudson took time to warm-up, but finished strong with third and first places in the last two races to move him up to third for the day.
Ernesto Rodriguez seems to be doing a good job training his crews. Ernesto’s Worlds crew, Lior Lavie, skippering in his first Snipe regatta with crew Bruno Mello (Atlanta) recovered nicely from two OCS’s by winning the third race. Ernesto’s US Nationals crew, 15 year-old Eddy Mintzias, who just moved out of Optis, is in 7th place in his first Snipe regatta. Helping Eddy get around the course is Pietro Fantoni’s Worlds crew, Pere Puig (Miami).
The leading Women’s skipper is Miami’s Taylor Scheuermann in 4th place and the top junior team for the day was Nicolas Grael and Joao Pedro Moreira (BRA) just behind Taylor in 5th place.
