Eight Bells: Dick Loomis

Dick had a long history with the Snipe Class. He started sailing Snipes more than 40 years ago. He was Fleet Captain, District Governor, Chair of a North American’s held at Richmond, volunteer on countless projects and of course a winner of Fleet 12’s Bird Brain Award.

I had the opportunity last month to see and talk with Dick on a sunny afternoon at Richmond Yacht Club. Even though he was clearly not well, we still talked about sailing together in the RYC beer can races this year. I miss him.
