This proposal better specifies the current rule to fix possible misinterpretations. Alternative to 24-18.

I disagree with this proposal. The jib must run free in the jib wire. Adjusting the jib height is important to boat setup. When you put the rake up, you need to put the jib down and when you put the rake down you adjust the jib up. It's impossible to have a good trim of the jib if it stays fixed in the jib wire.

Hi Bruno,
Actually when we change the rake (usually turning the shrouds adjusters before racing and/or adjusting the jib halyard), we can move up and down the jib head using a short line attached to the shackle and the jib wire end (of course we cannot do that while racing ... because we need to lower the jib). Also, if we change the rake, we can move the jib barber/jib lead up and down or fore and aft or in and out, so we can control the jib shape, according to the conditions and the rake.
I guess the "flying jib system" was invented mostly for moving up the jib when you are going downwind with the pole up, so the jib can fly much higher than usual.
We can agree or disagree for allowing the "flying jib system" (and it is great to have a good discussion about this topic, considering pros and cons), but, honestly, I am sure that the reason why it was invented is for having a big advantage downwind and not for adjusting the jib shape upwind if we change the rake.

Hi Pietro! Seems that we talking about different topics. What I said was that jib can not be fixed and unajustable in the jib wire. We can do it like you said with a line with knots in the top of the jib. It's ok and you can not adjust while racing. We can not kill it. This is not flying jib system.

This proposal goes against the evolution of the snipe class. It goes against the safety of the snipe sailors. It goes against the practicality of the boat. It goes agasint saving material. The class should strongly consider allowing the "Flying Jib" - The system to adjust the jib height while sailing!

Totalmente de acuerdo con Prieto y con el segundo comentario de Bruno. El foque NO puede ser volante
