This is an excellent proposal and will eliminate the damage to centerboard caps (and crew fingers) from the currently required metal shackle. It will also be cheaper!

I agree. It is a good option. It is hard to find a metal shackle that fits our use.

The main reason to have a line to secure the centerboard it should be: safety.
In case the boat capsizes, the centerboard needs to keep in their centerboard box.
To make sure the sailors comply with the rules when racing, so not lifting the centerboard more than what the rule specifies, the Class needs to improve the rule: basically I believe the centerboard needs to have "diagonal cuts" in the front part of it (not hard to make), to place it in a hook on the deck level of the boat (like the Brazilian boats are produced originally).
This will actually make the ideal limitation for the centerboard to not be lifted more than the limit of the rule.
Let's think smart and stop making/changing rules without smarter reasons.

In most cases soft shackles are a very good alternative to metal shackles. Regarding the daggerboard it could be a good choice but there are some questions to solve:
• There is a limit in the total length of the safety line. If the soft shackle is connected to the daggerboard handle , is the safety line long enough to raise the board to the max position?
• I suppose there are several types of soft shackles. The one shown in the proposal is a good option, but some other types can be easily removed and/or changed with longer ones. A strict specification appears to be mandatory.
• The safety line length is taken from the inside of the shackle pin. Where if a soft shackle is used?

Correct. But all requirements shall be included in the proposed new rule (soft shackle sewn with the security line, length taken inside the the shackle with the line completely extended). But my question was: does 610mm of total length allows the daggerboard to be fully extended? If not we have two choices: leave the 610mm or change the total length of the security line. But this also must be included in the proposed new rule. If not, it cannot be approved.
