Fleet 876 Romagna
Fleet 876, Romagna, Italy By Alberto Perdisa History of the fleet After convincing some friends in 2000 to buy Snipes and re-launching the boat in an area once important but where our races were gone, I decided that I had to constitute our own fleet. So in 2005 we founded the fleet Romagna 876. At first we were five boats: Berti, Pantano, Stella, my son Francesco and me. Then I convinced many others to buy a Snipe, including Dimilta, Fuzzi, Guadagni, Montanari, Pepe, Prati, Selleri, Sangiorgi and my sons Filippo and Filiberto. We were joined by Giovanni Ceccarelli, a very good sailor with victories in numerous Ton Cups and designer of the America's Cup boat "+39".

History of the fleet
After convincing some friends in 2000 to buy Snipes and re-launching the boat in an area once important but where our races were gone, I decided that I had to constitute our own fleet.
We were joined by Giovanni Ceccarelli, a very good sailor with victories in numerous Ton Cups and designer of the America’s Cup boat “+39”.
Three years ago, Pietro Fantoni, one of the best Italian Snipe sailors, who was often present at our regattas in the Adriatic Sea and enthusiastic about our competitive but friendly environment, joined our fleet with Marinella Gorgatto. He brought young sailors to the regattas who did well internationally, like Meotto-Cassandro at the last Junior Worlds and Coccoluto-Gerin at the previous Junior Worlds, who fought until the end for the victory.
Location
The fleet navigates in Cervia and Riccione in the northern Adriatic Sea, with another fleet of the Romagna region, the Fleet Rimini (with De Carolis as captain and many many good and enthusiastic sailors like brothers Marco and Giuseppe Prosperi).
Boats and Sailors
Today Fleet Romagna counts 18 boats with 41 members. I already mentioned Pietro Fantoni and Francesc Rossi, who are second and fifth in the Italian ranking and competed with crews Marco Rinaldi and Gianfranco Filippini in the 2013 World Championship in Rio. Marco Pantano, Carlo Prati, Giovanni Stella, Alberto and Filippo Perdisa are often in the first 10-15 positions of the Italian ranking.
For four years in a row we won the “Beccaccino d’Oro,” a reward for the Fleet that got the most points in the national ranking. For three consecutive years, Pietro Fantoni won the Coppa Duca di Genova, which rewards the best skipper. This year Pietro came second, only a few points behind the winner Solerio.
Annual regattas or events
We organize such important regattas as the Coppa Tamburini in Rimini, held since 1941, the oldest regatta for dinghies in Italy. We also host the Coppa Manlio Mignani in Riccione and the regattas in Punta Marina. Most important, since 2007, is the Piada Trophy in Cervia, an international regatta known all over the world, with a prestigious roll of honor: the Rochellis and Solerio but also world champion Bruno Bethlem, Spaniard Jordi Triay, Belgian Bart Janssen and Argentine Luis Soubie. Even two-time world champion Augie Diaz often participates in the “Piada” with Kathleen Tocke, and the team always placed in the top three.
In 2012, Cervia has hosted the Junior and Senior European Championship.
Social events
The Romagna people are friendly and welcoming and our regattas are always occasions for social events, with fine food and wine. In the winter time we have dinner together and plan for the next racing season, in a spirit of friendship.
The Piada Trophy is a unique promotional event with many attractions, such as the “Piada grand prix,” where sailors compete on the go-cart race track.
We also organize clinics with Snipe Champion Alexandre Paradeda, and Pietro Fantoni sometimes coaches our training.
Our Fleet captain keeps members up to date through a mailing list. Also, there is a specific site, www.piadatrophy.org, for this event.
Future plans
For the next year our commitment will be to maximize the success of the many events we organize. We are also planning a special regatta for sailors under 30 with a great combination of food, music and dance and, of course, good sailing. The event will be called “DJ Snipe regatta”.
