You don’t know what it’s like to be part of the mystical Snipe class!

This weekend, the Gêmeos do Mar regatta will take place in honor of the three-time world champion twin brothers of Snipe, Axel and Erik Schmidt. The organization is by Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro.

What many don’t know is that their older sister, Margarete, was the best sailor. She was Brazilian Vice Champion in 1960 at the helm with Erik at the bow in POA (Gabriel Gonzalez and Nelson Picollo won) and Vice in 1961 at the bow of Erik in Vitória (Axel and Oscar Maia won).

Margarete also took turns with her sister, Ingrid (mother of Torben, Lars and Axel), to win the crowns in beauty contests.

A tragic plane crash took her life very early.

Este final de semana vai rolar a regata a Gêmeos do Mar em homenagem aos irmãos gêmeos tri-campeões mundiais de Snipe Axel e Erick Schmidt. A organização é do @iateclubedoriodejaneiro

O que muitos não sabem, é que a irmã mais velha deles, Margarete, era quem andava melhor. Ela foi Vice Campeã Brasileira em 1960 no leme com Erick na proa em POA (Gabriel Gonzalez e Nelson Picollo venceram) e Vice em 1961 na proa do Erick em Vitória (Axel e Oscar Maia vemceram).

Margarete também revezava com sua irmã , Ingrid (mãe de Torben, Lars e Axel), as coroas dos concursos de beleza.

Um trágico acidente aéreo tirou sua vida muito cedo.
