Cottage Park Yacht Club hosted their annual Make-A-Wish Regatta, which also served as the 2026 Snipe New England Championship, on August 1–2. In addition to two days of competitive racing, sailors supported the regatta’s fundraising mission by attending Saturday evening’s dinner and participating in the silent auction and raffle benefiting Make-A-Wish.
Saturday began with a brief postponement ashore as the race committee waited for the breeze to settle in. Once racing got underway, conditions built steadily from a light morning breeze into a solid 12–14 knots by early afternoon before easing later in the day. The fleet completed six races, providing a demanding opening day with plenty of opportunities for position changes throughout the standings.
Sunday brought another beautiful day on Boston Harbor with a south-southwest breeze generally in the 10–14 knot range. Four more races were completed, giving competitors ten races over the weekend. Sailing alongside the Rhodes 19 fleet on a shared race course just off Deer Island, the Snipes enjoyed excellent championship conditions that rewarded consistency as much as outright speed.
Jim Bowers and Corinne Poitras of Cottage Park Yacht Club put together an impressive series to claim both the Make-A-Wish Regatta and the Snipe New England Championship with just 18 points. Fellow Cottage Park sailors John MacRae and Myrna Chan-MacRae finished second with 30 points after a remarkably consistent weekend that included two race wins. Alec Stewart and Grace Mao rounded out the podium in third with 39 points.
Many thanks go to Cottage Park Yacht Club, the race committee, mark boat crews, scorers, and volunteers for running ten races over the two-day championship. Their efforts kept racing moving smoothly despite Saturday’s morning postponement and provided fair, efficient competition throughout the weekend. The Snipe fleet also extends its appreciation to the organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who supported the Make-A-Wish Regatta through the dinner, silent auction, and raffle, making another memorable weekend of racing on Boston Harbor.
