Boston Snipe A/B Regatta

Snipe Fleet 244 and Cottage Park Yacht Club hosted their 3rd Annual A/B regatta this past weekend. This two division regatta format allowed more people to get into boats. Over 15% of competitors were completely new to the boat, and several sailors who were introduced to the snipe through previous years’ iteration of this regatta returned– with many planning on sailing Nationals in a week.

On Saturday, sailors in A division were met with a northwest breeze around 13 kts with gusts 17 kts which built to 15 gusting 20 by the time B division rotated in. After each division sailed a set of 3 races, RC decided to call it given the building breeze and desire not to cause any damage to boats a week and a half before Nationals.

Competitors enjoyed a taco bar and lively games of pool and candlepin bowling at Cottage Park Yacht Club on Saturday evening.

Sunday saw a nice south easterly around 10-12 kts. 3 more races were completed in each division. First time snipe sailors and recent high school graduates Hayes Kennedy and Max Dressell captured a win in the first A division race of the day!

Congratulations to team “Winchester’s Westland Ave. Warriors” made up of Jock MacRae/Linda Epstein in A division and Harry and Sarah Levinson in B division on their win. Team “High Noon” (A: Jim Bowers/Julia Marsh Rabin B: Julia Fuller/Meri Harrington) in second and Womp Womp (A: Connor Rosow/Courtland Doyle B: Jack Flores/Matt Caplan) in third rounded out the podium.

Thank you to Cottage Park Yacht Club and RC lead by Sue Hardy with help from Ernie Hardy, Denise Economides, John Economides, Margo Feeney, and Tom Robinson. Thanks to Winchester Frostbite Fleet and MIT Sailing Pavilion for lending us whalers and ribs to do rotations on the water.
