In the past several days, there have been inquiries into how the SCIRA Board operates and conducts class business.  Most of these answers are in the Snipe Class Constitution, Bylaws, or Deeds of Gift. Or – ask a past Commodore as business has not changed much over the years.

In this series of articles, we’ll help outline how your SCIRA Board works – and as always, all SCIRA officers are available through email, phone calls, at regattas, or any other means of communication to answer any question you have about YOUR class – the best doublehanded dinghy in the World!

BOARD MEETINGS

With the advent of Zoom/Teams, the SCIRA Board has had more opportunities to meet often, sometimes monthly, and sometimes more as the needs arise. The Board has their own WhatsApp group, as between the various time zones, this has proven the best form of constant communication.

In 2024, the Board met in person at the World Championship.  There were a few other regattas where most officers were in attendance and informal meetings were held, but mostly talking to fellow Class members to gain their viewpoints.  The Board met via Zoom to discuss the various proposals on 4 different occasions, often weekly, taking in any comments made on the Snipe website, before final voting in July.  The Board met prior to arriving in Buenos Aires for the Worlds to tackle the sudden resignation of the website manager just before the Worlds and the discuss any other business that could be taken care of prior to arrival.  The Board has continued to have weekly meetings into December as a transition of new officers occurs. As outlined in the Constitution, each officer has specific duties that they are charged with and are expected to carry out and report on their progress and any developments.
