Championship Bids
In the past several days, there have been inquiries into how the SCIRA Board operates and conducts class business. Most of these answers are in the Snipe Class Constitution, Bylaws, or Deeds of Gift. Or – ask a past Commodore as business has not changed much over the years.
In this series of articles, we’ll help outline how your SCIRA Board works – and as always, all SCIRA officers are available through email, phone calls, at regattas, or any other means of communication to answer any question you have about YOUR class – the best doublehanded dinghy in the World!
Championship Bids
Several years ago, the Board set a deadline for submissions of bids to host, which are posted on the Snipe.org website for our major championships. Over the past several years, bids have been scarce, and in many instances, no bids were submitted, or in some cases, many were submitted well after the deadline.
The SCIRA Board tries to keep to the Deeds of Gift where rotations are outlined, as SCIRA is a global class, and regattas should be held in various regions to give equal access. When bids are submitted to the Snipe Class office, a courtesy reply receipt is sent. Bids are distributed to the Board for consideration and voted upon in a timely manner. With the recent lack of bids, the Board has taken careful consideration in reaching out to potential venues and trying to distribute the host venue to different hemispheres or continents than the previous championship. The Class is very fortunate to have SCIRA Spain submit bids when no others have been submitted, however, the Board is diligent to exhaust other options before finalizing.
