APRIL FOOLS’ DAY – THIS IS A JOKE

The wing mast, already seen in the America’s Cup, on A Class catamarans and Moths, debuts in the Snipe Class.

It seems that the benefits in terms of speed are significant, especially in medium wind conditions (10 to 15 knots).

The Rules Committee has already voted that wing masts comply with the class rules. As long as the wing mast is built by aluminium frame and film of mylar, materials that are already allowed for the traditional mast and sails, it is legal.

The Oracle team has begun testing a Snipe wing mast in a super secret lake in Western Australia. Rumor has it that if time permits, they will also test foils on the daggerboard and rudder.
