Buenos Aires, Argentina, October 28, 2024. Practice race and opening ceremony.

On Tuesday 29 the first two races are scheduled (first race at 13:00 – local time).

An important communication from the SCIRA Technical Committee:

It has come to my attention that there are boats using a system to adjust the jib height along the luff wire while racing. These systems are NOT permitted.
Rule C.10.6 a) specifies that the halyard can be adjusted while sailing. This is an accepted practice. However, it also states that the jib must be attached to the luff wire or line.
The meaning of the final part “by any system.” does not mean movable, but rather it can be tied like many jibs that leave the wire in, or it can be fixed by a shackle, for example.
Additionally, Rule F.7.2 specifies optional running rigging. Since the Snipe class has closed rules, and the described system is not listed, it is not permitted.
Gus Wirth
SCIRA Technical Committee Chairman
