“Great” Masa passed away.

The sailing legend of Japan, Masayuki Ishii has passed away at age of 82 on February 12th by interstitial pneumonia. I deeply regret to inform you of this sad news. The funeral had been held privately by his family.

Four times Snipe class national champion.
Bronze Medalist at Snipe Class World Championship in 1959.
Sailed twice in Olympic Games; 1960 Rome (Dragon class) and 1964 Tokyo (Star class).
Olympic Jury at Barcelona 1992.
America’s Cup Umpire at San Diego 1995.

What a loss! Masa was not only a great judge but a great friend. It was Masa who personally informed and congratulated me upon appointment as an international judge. He gave sound, valuable advice and was always "there' for any judge or sailor who needed him. He will be missed. I am sad.
