Eight Bells: Bjorn Sundby

Bjørn Sundby, NOR 30187, passed away on January 2nd 2014. It was, as SCIRA Norway put it, a "sad beginning to the Snipe year." Bjørn never stopped thinking about Snipe sailing and most of all, his Snipe friends around the world. Here's an email he sent on his 85th birthday, a few days before Christmas, that we want to share in remembrance. "To the editors, Thanks very much for your excellent project SnipeToday. Very important for the improved success of our class. Just want to wish friends in many countries seasons greetings, and more important: thank you many of you for good friendship and much help, in many places, including: Bracciano, Sao Paolo, Rio, Las Palmas, Malaga, Oakville, Motala, Gothenburg, Asgardstrand, And last but [not] least all the gang at the Oslo Snaroya fleet still with 60 Snipes.

“To the editors,

Thanks very much for your excellent project SnipeToday.

On my 85th birthday now it seems that health shall not allow me to get aboard a Snipe again, the idiopathic pneumonal fibrosis takes my power away. It has been a long voyage from my first Snipe in Oakville mid 50’s, It has been good..

All the best in the new Year, wish I’d be there…

yours bjorn sundby NOR 30187″

And here are some of Bjørn’s ideas for growing our class.
