Robert Scheidt was born April 15, 1973 and is widely considered to be one of the greatest sailors of all time.

He is a two-time Olympic champion and 15-time world champion in Laser and Star. 

His sailing career began at the age of nine on Guarapiranga at the Yacht Club Santo Amaro, in Sao Paulo with an Optimist given by his father. At the age of eleven he won an important title for the first time, the South American Optimist class, which he would win two more times in the 1980s. 

His move to the Snipe class started with his brother Thomas, then with two of his Opti friends, Fabio Prada Ferreira and Marcelo Batista. In Brazil, he won the Junior Nationals in 1991 and 1992 in his Snipe “Stars and Snipes”.
