#3686 Rosi II

By Gonzalo "Old Man" Diaz Here is a photo of me on my first snipe # 3686 in 1945 approx. The boat was built in Cuba in 1939 by an excellent Miramar Yacht Club carpenter. I forgot his name but he was very famous in our Club for 20 years and he must have built around 15 to 20 snipes from 1938 to 1950 and many other wood sailboats and motor boats. # 3686, like Giorgio's (Brezich), has a backstay and a jumper in front upper mast. In 1943 I was 13 years old and I spent many hours in what was called the Miramar Yacht Club "boat house", second floor of which was full of 1930 to 1945 YACHTING magazines. I read them all. That is probably how I got hooked in sailing. ...

Here is a photo of me on my first snipe # 3686 in 1945 approx.

The boat was built in Cuba in 1939 by an excellent Miramar Yacht Club carpenter.

I forgot his name but he was very famous in our Club for 20 years and he must have built around 15 to 20 snipes from 1938 to 1950 and many other wood sailboats and motor boats. # 3686, like Giorgio’s (Brezich), has a backstay and a jumper in front upper mast.

In 1943 I was 13 years old and I spent many hours in what was called the Miramar Yacht Club “boat house”, second floor of which was full of 1930 to 1945 YACHTING magazines. I read them all. That is probably how I got hooked in sailing.

By that time I knew how to sail but I was specially impressed by the snipes coming in into our basin with the Northeasterly winds 15 to 20.

They were so pretty and fast! By 1945 many of my father’s friends at the Club knew that I was dying to get a snipe. They put pressure on my father and finally he bought me the Rosi II snipe #3686. My first Snipe!
