Janett Krefting, Snipe Sailor from Norway, 2000 Women’s World Champion

– 1) Your first time on a sailing boat?

1983 , 30 years ago when I was 20.

– 2) Your first time on a Snipe?

When I was 20 , I had just met Birger (Jansen), so he invited me into the Snipe with Cheese and Wine. That was my first Snipe Date!

– 3) The most bizarre thing that happened in a regatta?

In Italy for the Master worlds in Italy,  Bracciano 2004  when a thunderstorm came in with a lot of lightening and lots of the masters capsized. That was scary!

– 4) What is the thing that most angers you in a race/regatta?

Too long pauses between races here in Norway, it is freezing cold here sometimes we’re “freezing our butts off” between races.

– 5) Which is the race/regatta that you remember with the most pleasure?

Wow, hard to say, I think it must be the Womens Worlds in Trieste Italy 2000. Besides, I love all the Master Worlds and Europeans!

– 6) And the race/regatta you would like to forget?

I can not recall any, because even if races go bad all my friends are still there!

– 7) Your “dream in the peak”? (Your sailing dream?)

To have more time to travel, racing Snipes.

– 8) Sailing goals for 2013, and beyond?

Try to do a whole sailing season with my boyfriend Espen including a trip or two racing abroad ! (that would be a good 50 anniversary present for me this year)

– 9) The most important people for you in sailing and in the Snipe?

Wow, there are so many, but first of all Birger that introduced me to the Snipe and sailing. And of course the very good helmsmen that I have been crewing for , Kristoffer Spone , Bjørn Forslund, Karianne Eikeland , Jerry Thompson

– 10) Why the Snipe?

It is the first boat I was introduced to, and I like the challenge and hard work sailing a dinghy. And not to forget all the very nice peoples and social side of the class.

– 11) Your perfect sailing venue and your perfect sailing conditions?

A sunny day at the Bahamas. He.he… (remember I am from the cold North)

– 12) Besides sailing which other sport do you practice?

To keep in shape, I like to snowboard, run, lift weights and swim .

– 13) Are you superstitious?

No

– 14) Your perfect holiday?

Sailing a Snipe regatta somewhere and meet all my friend that I have got from Snipe sailing!
