Team Japan at the Snipe Junior Worlds

Mr. Zbignew Rakocy, Commodore of SCIRA, asked me for the impressions of the members who participated in the Snipe Junior Worlds 2024 from Japan as a secretariat.

I would like to share my feelings with you. I have been helping to send junior members to the world championships since the last Portugal event, and the regattas are so great!!! Positive, honest, and cheerful. I think it is a great time for Juniors to experience overseas regattas while they are still university students, instead of the tense, mentally strained Japanese intercollegiate championship. The intercollegiate championship in Japan is a great event, but I felt that they captured something completely different from that, and that made me happy and empowered.

Like last time, I didn’t like to look at the results, because I just wanted everyone to be fine and doing well. I had many worries until they returned home safely just like their mother. The pictures they sent me during the championship with their smiling faces showed that even when they were tired, they enjoyed communicating with many foreign friends. I think they experienced a little of the meaning of “Serious Saling, Serious Fun.” Sailors on the water, sailors in the harbor, and all of them friendly and teaching them everything they knew.

The most impressive thing for me this time was to see pictures of a kid (not my son!!) I have known since he was little, who has raced on many oceans in the Opti, with a smile of plain enjoyment that I have never seen before.

I strongly feel that they experienced something besides competition. And it would be great if one of them would spread that Sailing Snipes is a wonderful and fun thing to do!

I would like to express my gratitude to SCIRA, Commodore Mr. Zbignew Rakocy, Paola, and Jerelyn for their continued support, SnipeToday Pietro, and all supporters!!! Everyone involved in this Championship and the local people who helped us.

I’m looking forward to the next Snipe Junior World Championship.

2024Junior Snipe World Championshipへの日本参加の派遣をして感じたこと

今回、国際スナイプ協会会長　Zbignew Rakocyさんより参加したジュニアワールド後の選手の私からの感想をきかれましたので、僭越ながら事務局の私から感じた事をそのまま伝えさせて頂きます。

前回のポルトガルよりジュニアの世界大会派遣のお手伝いをさせて頂いておりますが、彼らは前向きで素直で明るい素晴らしい学生さんで、彼らとやり取りをしてそれぞれの性格もわかるのが私にはとても楽しい時間です。日本でのインカレを目指す為に緊張し精神的に張り詰めて取り組んでいる日本のレースでなく、少し違う海外のレースを学生のうちに経験することが、彼らに決して悪いことではなく、きっと彼らの財産になると思っております。私は、実は成績を見るのは苦手です。本心は前回と同じく、皆の母親のようで私にはかわいい子供達だけで、元気で頑張っていれば良いだけでした。期間中に私に送ってくれた写真は疲れていても楽しんでいる彼らの素敵な笑顔でした。まさにSerious Saling ,Serious Fun の本質·意味を少しは体験して頂けたのかものと思います。海にいるセーラー、ハーバーにいるセーラー、どの人も年上の方々が自ら声をかけて何でも教えてくれたと聞きました。勿論、大学のヨット部に入っている彼らの目標があるかと思いますし、インカレの試合も素晴らしい大会です。このジュニア世界大会の派遣はそれとは全く別のものを獲てくれていると感じ、それが私には嬉しい事であり、パワーをもらいました。今回で一番印象的な事は、小さいころから知っているOPTiから沢山入賞し沢山の海にレースに出てきたある男の子が、これまでにない見たことのない素の楽しんでいる笑顔の写真を見たことです。彼らは競技の他に何か経験してくれたものと強く感じます。そして彼らの中からセーリングが、スナイプが素晴らしく楽しいものだと広めてもらえたら嬉しい事と思います。

この素敵な機会を与えてくださった国際スナイプ協会、会長Zbignew Rakocyさん、PAOLAさん、いつもお世話になっているJerelyn、現地でお世話になったSnipe Today Pietro、大会関係者、お手伝い頂きました現地の方々皆様に感謝いたします。
