Holiday Greetings from Your SnipeToday Editors

One year ago we had the idea of creating a new site especially for Snipe sailors. We did not have a clear picture of what it would be. After a few meetings in Trieste with the developers of the site, numerous emails and Skype calls from one side of the pond to the other, from Moruzzo to Jamestown and vice-versa, SnipeToday was born. From the beginning the motto has been: “A site for all Snipe Sailors” The Snipe Class has members from many countries and sailors of different ages, levels and aspirations. Between countries and between the different fleets, there are quantitative and qualitative differences, traditions and ambitions. What brings us together is the quirky 15 foot boat we all sail. Since we started the site, SnipeToday has become a place to exchange information and ideas among all sailors who race a Snipe.

From the beginning the motto has been: “A site for all Snipe Sailors”

The Snipe Class has members from many countries and sailors of different ages, levels and aspirations. Between countries and between the different fleets, there are quantitative and qualitative differences, traditions and ambitions. What brings us together is the quirky 15 foot boat we all sail.

Since we started the site, SnipeToday has become a place to exchange information and ideas among all sailors who race a Snipe. This has enriched us and given us ideas for improvement, which we like to think has helped the Class.

From the beginning we wanted the site to be truly international, and now many countries follow us. In the last month, Japan has moved to the top of the list! Also from Europe, North America and South America we have loyal readers. The weekly SnipeToday Digest goes to 477 readers. During the 2012 W &O Championship we had 1,279 visits and 62,793 views on our busiest day. In a year, the site scored 83,000 visits and 3,400,000 views.

The site has covered many regattas, big or small, from almost all the countries where the Snipe is sailed. We have hosted the opinions of many sailors, National Secretaries, and members of the Board, as a complement to the official website www.snipe.org.

Last month we started a series of interviews, the famous “14 questions to….” These have become very popular and well represent what SnipeToday is. We want to talk with sailors from around the world, from the back of the fleet as well as the front, from young sailors and old. With these interviews we get to know more about the people that animate our Class.

After our first year, the editors are excited about our progress. Hopefully our readers are also excited.

We have more than 20 authors who submitted to the site this year, and we hope to have even more next year. We thank all those who participated to share information, opinions, stories, photos, and video.

All we ask of our readers is that you send us your suggestions, ideas and contributions to improve SnipeToday. It is very important for us to know what you think.

Merry Christmas! And see you on the water!

I enjoy reading Snipe Today regularly on my iPad in the kitchen of my home in Ann Arbor, Michigan at various times day and night.

Tonight it is snowing and cold but I'm warm inside anticipating sailing my boat in February at the Rasco hosted by Old Man Diaz in Miami.

The articles and comments keep me connected with the Snipe Class and a super group of sailors.

Happy New Year 2013 !!!
