Under 30 West Coast Championship
Mission Bay, CA, USA, August 3, 2025

Mission Bay, CA, USA, August 3, 2025.
Report by Doug Hart.
On August 1-3 Mission Bay Yacht Club hosted the Snipe West Coast Under 30 and Junior Worlds Qualifier, with 15 boats registered hailing from across the US. Diego Escobar did all the heavy lifting, serving as Regatta Chair and organizing and running a Clinic on Friday afternoon.
The sailing venue was in the ocean on Saturday, in 5 to 8 knots of breeze. Tight racing was evident, and place changes were plentiful. On Sunday the venue was moved to Mission Bay with shiftier flat-water racing. Again, the racing was close.
The Snipe motto of “Serious Sailing, Serious Fun” was clearly evident this weekend. Also noteworthy was that lots of newcomers to the class participated, many who are good sailors coming from other strong sailing backgrounds.
The Top 3 overall were Diego Escobar and his brother Santiago in first, followed by Owen Fretwell and Colin Krebs in second and Tyler Mowry and Christian Cyrul in third. The top 3 Junior Worlds qualifiers are Owen Fretwell and Colin Krebs followed by Efe Derman with Sabrina Anderson/Allie Shand and Wyatt Kelly and Kaya Hancock.
Congratulations to all for a great regatta.
