Winchester Snipe Invitational

Winchester, MA, USA July 28, 2024. The weekend of July 27-28 brought sun, heat, and light winds to the 60th running of the Winchester (Massachusetts) Snipe Invitational, featuring 18 teams representing not only Massachusetts but also Connecticut, New York, and Florida.  Principal Race Officer Kenny Delpapa and his team heroically completed 2 races on Saturday in fickle conditions, with another 6 races completed in steadier breezes on Sunday along with a small but enthusiastic fleet of Winchester Boat Club 420’s.  

In the end, local legend and perennial champion Jim Bowers – sailing with Scarlett Koller – edged the father-daughter team of John MacRae and Hannah Chan-MacRae by 2 points, followed in the top-5 by “next-generation” Snipers Cam and Liz Fraser, Dan Nickerson/Natalie Danzinger, and first-time Snipe sailors (and recent college grads) JJ Smith and Clara Hewson.
