Boston A/B Snipe Regatta

The second annual A/B snipe regatta was hosted at Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop, MA this past weekend (June 17-18).  The collegiate style two division format allowed more people to get into boats and many competitors were first time Snipe sailors! 

On Saturday competitors were held onshore for an hour waiting for the breeze to fill. They toughed it out in light air and rain. The breeze was approximately 5-10 knots from the north and shifted east throughout the day. The ebbing tide played a factor as well. Each division completed two races before enjoying tacos from Anna’s Taqueria and spirited games of candlepin bowling in the clubhouse.

Sunday’s conditions were much nicer. The day started out light and flukey but the wind eventually filled in to 8-10 knots from the north, shifting east. There were a few spurts of light rain and eventually the sun came out for the last couple races. The final A division race was nearly champagne conditions, about 8-10 knots and 70 degrees and sunny. Each division sailed 4 races on Sunday for a total of 6 races per division for the event.
