Halloween on Mystic Lake: Spooks Invade

After over a 20 years hiatus, Halloween Snipe sailing has returned to Winchester MA! Led by event coordinators Katie Levinson, Cam Fraser and Liz Glavinski, 11 teams challenged the Mystic Lake elements on Oct 31. Competitors including guest teams from the Tufts University sailing team, recent grads from Boston University, and “regular” fleet members.

Racing was picturesque, unique and challenging, thanks to the seasonal oranges, golds and browns in the shore-side trees, the light and shifty winds (what else could be expected from the Mystic Lakes?), and races sharing the same course as a college regatta. On-lake costumes included pirates, zebras, Wizard of Oz characters, devils, people-with-tutus-and-glasses-and-big-noses, one rifle-wielding skipper with some undetermined fuzzy-headed critter crew, some caped character, balloons-as-mast-head-flys and more. And it was great to have Shan MacAdoo (with crew Catherine Devlin) back on the water again!

Thanks to Tufts for providing a course, to Reed for starting us, to the Frasers and Wiatrowskis for loaning boats to the guests, to Harry Levinson and Peter Devlin for helping with RC, to the Frasers for providing trophies, and to the Levinson family for hosting the post-sailing social with two versions of homemade killer chile. A great time was had by all!
