Société Nautique de LARMOR PLAGE, Lorient, France

The French National Snipe championship took place in Lorient, Brittany, under a pristine blue sky. On Saturday the wind remained 10-20 knots and four races were run in ideal conditions. Sunday started almost windless but fortunately a light breeze enabled four races to be launched.

The young Justin Frebault crewed by his dad won brilliantly 5 out of 9 races, René Lebour crewed by Brigitte Roustan won 3 and Michel Villette and Zaïra Benbadis 1.

After a year of intense training Yves Sotto and Vincenta Bosque managed to reach the 15th rank of the race proving they are fast learners.

Many young sailors, including two female teams, some of them sailing a Snipe for the first time, completed the race with outstanding courage.

On both days the last race consisted in a raid from the race area to the harbour. It was indeed an interesting navigation against wind snaking between beacons, buoys and rocks, in addition to a capricious stream.

Following the French tradition, a roasted suckling pig was shared on Saturday evening.

With these last words, we hope to attract many foreign teams to our next French National in Le Havre on June 7-9 2014.
