From snipeusa.com
From the Heinzerling “desk”:
Day four of the Snipe US Nationals brought very similar conditions as the prior day in terms of wind direction(s), but with added complexity due to slightly less wind velocity (translation: bigger holes between the puffs). This was the Upper Mystic Lake in all its glory, where even the top of the leaderboard saw scores well into the double-digits. Clearly no lead was safe and no deficit was completely insurmountable thanks to winds that, during the course of any given race, could shift 45 degrees or more.
With ten races and two throwouts now taken into account for the scores, Winchester Boat Club locals Jim Bowers and Julia Marsh Rabin maintain an 11 point lead over fellow fleet members Art and Jennifer Rousmaniere. Nearly 25 points back are legendary Snipe champions Augie Diaz/Pam Kelly from Florida and George Szabo/Dianna Waterbury from San Diego. After a 13-point gap, places 5-8 in the standings are separated by only a couple of points, so the final day of racing on Friday offers plenty of opportunities to move up or down in the overall results, and not just in the top-10.
Friday’s conditions look to be sunny and slightly cooler with light to moderate north winds to finish out the competition. It has been an exciting but challenging week of racing thus far, with the race committee challenged but equally up to the task along with the competitors.
