Season Opener in Torre del Lago Cancelled
The Italian Snipe season has faced an abrupt delay
The Italian Snipe season has faced an abrupt delay. The “Primavera in Snipe” regatta, scheduled for March 21–22 on the waters of Lake Massaciuccoli, has been cancelled.
The Organizing Committee announced the decision following the closure of the small harbor by the Municipality of Viareggio. This closure is the result of an ongoing dispute between the local club and the city regarding public space usage and the installation of a walkway that physically blocks the harbor mouth.
This infrastructure issue effectively halts all nautical activities, including the club’s Junior Program. Consequently, the Italian Snipe Master Nationals, planned for September at the same venue, are now in serious doubt unless an agreement is reached between the club and the local authorities.
“We apologize to the sailors, their families, and local tourism operators for the inconvenience caused. This cancellation is beyond the Organizing Committee’s control: all possible solutions were evaluated and discussions were held with the relevant authorities, but under current conditions, it is impossible to guarantee the conduct of sporting activities.
It is difficult to understand the Municipal Administration’s decision to penalize two amateur sailing and kayaking associations that play a fundamental role in promoting sport within the region.
Any updates will be shared should there be changes to the navigation ban.
Torre del Lago Puccini, 18/03/2026.
