The best Spanish participant is Antonio López, in the sixth place

The Snipe Junior World Championship, organized by the Real Club Náutico of La Coruña, started today. The Portuguese Mafalda Pires de Lima is on top of the general ranking, thanks to her regularity (she did a first and a third place in the regattas celebrated today).

The day started with good wind conditions, five knots that went up until nine. The first regatta was quick. In less than an hour (57 minutes), the first of the contestants crossed the finish line.

The dominant countries were, like in the second round, the Portuguese language ones. Brazil was already a favourite country, so the Brazilian participants fulfilled the expectations. Tiago Brito, the number one of the participant’s list, was the winner, followed by his compatriot Daniel Platt. The third position was achieved by Mafalda Pires de Lima and, the actual world junior runner-up, the Brazilian Felipe Rodina, ended in the fourth place.

The American Jensen McTighe crossed the finish line in the fifth position, as the Spanish Roberto Bermúdez de Castro crossed it sixth. Shortly after him, the actual junior world champion, the also Spanish Antonio López, finished the race in the seventh place.

The wind conditions were being good yet, so the organization decided to start up quickly the second round. But the wind’s intensity fell until the two knots, so the teams had to wait to start again.

With the competition resumed, the second race also lasted approximately an hour. Mafalda Pires demonstrated that she was completely adapted to the regatta’s field and the weather conditions, achieving the first position. And, after her, the rest of the Brazilian teams: Felipe Rodina (second), Daniel Platt (third), Nick Pellicano (fourth) y Tiago Brito (fifth).

The best Spanish of this round was Alejandro Bethencourt, that get recovered from the twelfth place achieved in the first race, ending sixth in the second one. Antonio López kept his regularity with the eighth position, as Roberto Bermúdez ended up the nineteenth.
