(Source: Bulkhead Magazine) The 78th Snipe Class All Japan Championship is being held at Enoshima from August 21st to 24th. 72 boats that won qualifying rounds in waters across the country were entered. On the first and second days, four races were held in light southerly winds, and a tough, nerve-wracking battle was unfolding on Enoshima in the middle of summer, when a heatstroke alert is in effect.
The third day of racing, August 23rd, also began with a light breeze of around 5 knots. As the wind picked up to create hike-out conditions, the veterans showed their energy. Kondo Yasushi and Kondo Hiroka, who had been in the lead until the previous day, finished 2-1-14th, far ahead of second-placed Takagi Katsuya and Watanabe Momoka. Watanabe Tetsuo and Saito Koji, tied with Takagi and Watanabe, rose to third place overall.
A total of nine races are scheduled for the championship, with two remaining races taking place tomorrow, the final day. Will Kondo/Kondo, who are in top form after taking first place in three races in the regatta, be able to hold on to the lead? Or will there be a comeback? In addition, the top seven teams in the All Japan Championships will be awarded tickets to next year’s World Championships in Spain. The battle for the top spots will also be closely watched.
