SNIPE CLASS RULES ENFORCEMENT – AUGUST 2025
It has been reported that a number of Class Rules is randomly or frequently violated in Snipe regattas.
In particular:
CR C.5 PORTABLE EQUIPMENT
CR C.5.1(a)1
Any electronic or mechanical timing devices.
CR C.5.1(a)3
Any multi function electronic compass with steering and time functions only.
CR C.8.4 DAGGERBOARD LIMITATIONS
CR C.8.4(a)3
The daggerboard retracted position limit mark shall be:
Marked with paint or an approved tape in a contrasting colour on both sides. Tape must have been specifically approved by SCIRA on a case-by-case basis. The list is promulgated as a Circular Letter by the SCIRA Technical Committee Chairman.

According to CR C.5.1 competitors can carry onboard devices with the specified functions only.
This excludes any wrist watches or devices with GPS capability and any electronic compasses with functions other than those specified, even if the additional functions are disabled.
Smart Watches or Vakaros compasses are not allowed in Snipe regattas.
Devices with additional functions (such as GPS locators) can be carried onboard only if provided by the Organising Authority. VHF radios can be carried onboard only if requested by the OA for safety reasons.
Vakaros (or similar) compasses can be used only if authorised by the Technical Committee on a case by case basis upon request of the OA.

According to CR C.8.4 the daggerboard band can only be painted or marked with tape.
The Technical Committee has published a statement with the allowed tapes which can be found at
