Coppa d’Oro Scognamiglio
From the end of the 1950s and during the 1960s, the Circolo Nautico Rapallo hosted an important Snipe regatta.
This year the Circolo Nautico Rapallo (Liguria, Italy) will host the Snipes for the first time in a long time for a Regata Nazionale.
The club in the past hosted, from the end of the 1950s and during the 1960s, an important Snipe regatta, the “Coppa d’Oro Scognamiglio”, named after Luigi Scognamiglio, one of the founders of the Circolo Nautico Rapallo.
On April 6-7 this tradition will revive with the regatta named after Luigi’s son, Mino Scognamiglio, thanks to the interest and contribution of his daughters Angelica and Connie.
Mino Scognamiglio, who passed away in 2021, was an entrepreneur in the maritime sector and left his mark in the history of the Italian Snipe class by winning 5 Italian championships (1953, 1960, 1961, 1964 and 1965), crewing for Danilo D’Isiot and Mino Della Casa.
Another interesting story about the Scognamiglio family concerns the famous Snipe “Snowball”, purchased by Luigi immediately after the Snipe Worlds in Monaco in 1953: #7082 “Snowball”
