Following numerous editions of the Miami Snipe Invite (MSI), which is reserved for Junior and Under 31 competitors, and the Junior Worlds in 2024, the Miami Snipe Fleet #007 continues its proactive efforts to promote the Class. The Snipe Women’s Hemisphere Cup was a significant success.
It is well-known that Snipe Class USA has a long-standing history of organizing women’s regattas. However, the concept of complementing the Snipe Women’s European Championship (SWEC) by establishing an Open regatta for the Western Hemisphere & Asia is attributed to two key promoters of the “Snipe Women” and “Snipe Divas” movement: Kathleen Tocke (Miami Fleet) and Paola Prada (São Paulo Fleet).
The execution of this vision was carried out by Kathleen, the whole Miami Snipe fleet, its two Captains, Marysleysis and Alejadra, several boat owners and, of course, Mr. Agustin “Augie” Diaz), many volunteers, and SCIRA USA (which concurrently hosted the US Women’s Nationals for the final two days of the event).
With 22 boats and sailors representing 10 different Nations and 4 Continents (!!!) at its first edition, the event achieved clear success. This achievement is further supported by the positive feedback from participants and those who followed the races remotely or viewed the event photography. The Women’s Snipe division (like the Junior division) is a highly important and growing segment of our Class, fostered by the commitment of certain fleets and nations.
We extend our gratitude to the creators, organizers, Race Committee, and all the volunteers of the Snipe Women’s Hemisphere Cup. The vitality of the Class is sustained by these initiatives.
“The next edition of the Hemisphere Cup will move to Brasil and will continue to move to different countries in the Western Hemisphere allowing more all-women’s competition in the Snipe Class.” – Snipe Women website
